Outreach
When a child believes they can't learn, its time to show them that they can! This week Jonathan met with 15 year old Aria-Mai and her mum at their home. Aria-Mai is dyslexic and autistic, and finds traditional classroom and book based learning environments extremely challenging. She struggles to retain information and often feels misunderstood at school. Most importantly, she has started to feel that perhaps she simply can't learn. When we demonstrated Flipflash Learning, we

Digital vs Analogue Learning
Jonathan all set up and ready to train teachers how to Flipflash This is a longer than usual Blog but is a very interesting read. Grap a cup of coffee and settle in to read. Reclaiming the Desk: Why Teacher-Led, Analogue Learning Remains the Gold Standard for the Neurodiverse Brain After 33 years in education—spanning mainstream classrooms, specialist learning support, and school leadership—I have watched pedagogical trends come and go. Yet, through decades of observing how c

Homeward Bound
And so this is the end of Jonathan's first trip to Kenya. Over the past week, he has introduced Flipflash Learning to Braeburn International School n Gittanga Road, visited a number of other schools, supported a special school and a Muslim school, and spent valuable time working alongside the chartiy K-Coop in Kibera. Although this visit has been far too short, it has strengthened our mission. We know what needs to be done and we are committed to returning to Kenya to continu

Day Six In Kenya
Today we visited a special school for children with profound and multiple learning difficulties. It was a privilege to meet the staff and students and we are looking forward to supporting them in the future. Each day we spend in Kenya reinforces our belief that every child deserves the opportunity to learn in a way that helps them succeed. The school was seriously lacking in special equipment and essential supplies and we hope that in the future we will be able to help them.

Day Five - A Visit to Hillcrest
Today we were at Hillcrest School who are part of the Braeburn Group. I spent time with Simon Ruscoe-Price and the schools inclusion team demonstrating to them as to how Flipflash works and what it could do if used in their school. The leaders at Hillcrest are committed to providing innovative evidence informed learning for all of their children. Their response was very positive and felt the children would really benefit from using Flipflash. The Inclusion Team and Head at Hi

Day Three in Kenya
Today has been another inspiring day. Jonathan taught a Year 9 maths lesson using the Flipflash Learning Boards, followed by a Year 10 English lesson, where students used Flipflash Learning to plan and write their own poems. He also delivered a Flipflash Learning session for the Inclusion Leads from across the Braeburn Group, using a history lesson to demonstrate the power of the Flipflash Learning approach and the Lewis Teaching Method ©. The response was fantastic, and the

Day Four in Kenya
Yesterday was a great day at Braeburn International School. One highlight of the day was Veronica, who has only been speaking English for one year. She completed an English grammar lesson, remembered what she had learnt and confidently stood up to explain it to the rest of class. I also met with the primary and secondary learning support teams and they were very enthusiastic for Flipflash Learning. I'm back in Braeburn today delivering English Language, Poetry and Maths sessi

An emotional 2nd day in Kenya
Today we visited the K-Coop centre. Seeing the conditions that many of these children live in was incredibly humbling. It was tough at times but it made it even more special to see so many smiles and laughter and the children enjoying learning together. Nothing quite prepares you for the reality of life in the communities we visited. Many of these children live in incredibly difficult conditions, with very little that we would consider essential. For many, their daily meal co

Arrived in Kenya
Jonathan took airport navigation to a whole new level on his trip to Kenya. Being visually impaired didn't stop him. It just meant every terminal became a surprise adventure. Security pointed left, the announcements echoed from somewhere else entirely, and by Gate 24 he was on a first-name basis with half the airport staff. Just when he thought he was making good progress, security pulled him aside because the scanner detected what looked like an alarming amount of metal in h

Arrival in Nairobi - A Little Pleasure before the hard work begins
After a long journey, Jonathan and Dean (Jonathan's guide) finally arrived in Nairobi late on Friday evening, ready to begin an exciting FlipFlash Learning trip. Before diving into a packed schedule of school visits, teacher training and community projects, Saturday was all about adjusting to life in Kenya. There's no better way to ease into the Kenyan way of life than by meeting some of its most famous residents! A visit to the world-famous Giraffe Centre gave Jonathan and D

Panda Power School pack has arrived
Panda Power Behavioural Programme Some ideas start with a whiteboard. Some start with a carefully planned project roadmap. And then there are the ideas that start in Jonathan's head on a random Tuesday morning. Just a few weeks ago, Panda Power was exactly that—an idea. A concept. A collection of enthusiastic conversations, sketches, and the occasional "wouldn't it be cool if..." moment. Fast forward to today, and we're holding the Panda Power prototype in our hands. Honestl
