Autism CPD for education settings

One visit, two sessions: a twilight for all your staff, and an evening session for parents and carers. Designed and delivered by an autistic trainer and a specialist SEND leader, and tailored to your setting, from EYFS to post-19.

Staff twilight

Two hours, for example 3:30 to 5:30pm, for all staff, not just teachers.

This isn't awareness training. It uses monotropism and the double empathy problem to explain what your staff already see every day: sensory differences, masking, meltdown and shutdown, and demand avoidance.

The second half covers practical adjustments staff can make the next morning, without a budget, a diagnosis or an EHC plan. Everyone leaves having committed to one change.

Parent and carer session

Two hours, for example 6 to 8pm, open to any parents and carers who'd like to come.

It covers keeping things consistent between home and school, with time for open questions.

Delivered by an expert with lived experience of being autistic and parenting autistic children,,

How it complements other CPD

It complements the DfE's SEND and inclusion training materials by adding autism-specific content, designed and delivered by an autistic trainer.

Kat is a neurodiversity specialist and autistic trainer. She delivers the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism as a Main Trainer and lived-experience co-trainer. She founded and developed a neurodivergent student provision at a sixth form that received Ofsted recognition, and specialises in reasonable adjustments and person-centred inclusion. She volunteers for the Neurodivergence Project, a charity promoting inclusion through sailing.

Jonathan has 33 years in education.  He has been Operational Head and Deputy Head of a special school and Head of Learning Strategies at Tonbridge School and Christ's Hospital, and has held senior pastoral and strategic roles in international schools in China. He is a Fellow of the International Forum of Inclusion Practitioners (IFIP). Jonathan is severely visually impaired, and created Flipflash as a way to access teaching and learning himself, before discovering it helped his pupils just as much. He founded Flipflash Learning in 2025.
